"Would you like to try weaving ?" she handed us Etchufu hemp threads.
They are for weft.
The threads of the grandmothers, who have made thread-making (Oumi) their purpose in life, were carefully made and have not lost their luster to this day.
Hemp fibers were from Tochigi.
We wanted to make these threads into cloth by Japanese hands.
We decided to twist two strands to make an eight-sun obi, but there is no one in Japan who can weave it using a backstrap loom.
So we tried weaving the first one on a treadle loom, but a warp thread broke.
For the second one, we tried "a weight loom" instead of a backstrap loom.
This time, the warp threads did not break and the cloth became beautiful.
It was an event that made us realize once again that when weaving hand-making hemp threads as warp threads, it is only possible to weave beautifully using a backstrap loom.
Price ¥300,000 / Obi (5.3m)
Standards Width 0.36mx Length 5.3m Weight 348g
